The RAMPS 1.6 Arduino Shield is a community-built module that has been designed in Shield format for RepRap and Prusa 3D Printers. It is a neat and tidy little package filled to the brim with functionality, and allows a simple Arduino Mega Board to control up to four different stepper motor drivers simultaneously. The term RAMPS stands for RepRap Arduino Mega Pololu Shield, and the board has been through many upgrades and iterations to get to the level of functionality that it offers today.
Although the RAMPS 1.6 is technically an upgrade from the RAMPS 1.4 Arduino Shield that we stock, there are many people who don’t necessarily agree with the changes that have been made. And while it is slightly cheaper with more reliable fuses installed, the MOSFETs have been integrated in a way that makes them more difficult to remove and replace. This is counterproductive for a DIY-focused brand like us, as we love to chop and change components, modify modules and essentially upgrade it to meet our specific needs.
However, if you don’t plan to make many modifications or do any DIY work on the Shield, this V1.6 RAMPS is a great choice for controlling stepper motors for CNC applications like 3D Printing, routing and milling machines. It features almost exactly the same components and functionality than the previous model, just with slightly different MOSFET placement and more reliable fuses.
Features:
1. It can be extended to LCD and other parts.
2. There are heater and fan MOSFET outputs and 3 thermistor interfaces
3. 5A additional security and component protection fusion
4. Heated bed controls additional 11A fuses
5. Applied to 5 stepper drive board
6. Design of plate pin socket can be easily replaced or removed for future design
7. I2C and SPI pins are available for future expansion
8. Servo connectors are used for connecting limit stops, motors and light-emitting diodes. These connectors are gold-plated and have a rated current of 3A, which is very compact.
9. The LED will light when the heater has output
10. Choose 2 motors to connect to Z Prusa Mendell
Application:
The RAMPS 1.6 Arduino Shield is designed specifically by the RepRap community for 3D Printers, for controlling the X, Y and Z axis as well as the extruder. However, it can realistically be used for any CNC machines that utilize Stepper Motors or similar parts, with more than enough free information and resources available online to help you build the project you’ve always dreamed of – at a fraction of the price of a pre-built machine.
